Space Medicine
Consulting contract to work on the Medical Requirements for Long Duration Space Flight Missions through the Canadian Space Agency. Long duration space missions included Mars, Lunar, Near Earth Asteroid (NEA), and the International Space Station. Need to look at which medical events may occur and what medical hardware and supplies would be needed to address these medical conditions. Additionally, needed to provide MPV (Mass Power Volume) calculations for the various medical equipment and supplies (note: depends on the mission and the space vehicle's capacity for resupply).
International Space Medicine Summit 2018.
Invitation-only conference with about 140 attendees (30 or so of them being astronauts/cosmonauts). They had several Apollo era astronauts there - Walt Cunningham (Apollo 7), Fred Haise (Apollo 13) and Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17 - walked on the moon). Also the Flight Surgeon for Apollo 11 was Canadian (Bill Carpentier). They had a panel celebrating Apollo’s 50th year anniversary – that included one of the Flight Directors and the Recovery Director. Carpentier was selected as he was the only flight surgeon willing to jump out of a helicopter at 40 feet at 40 knots. Carpentier has also assembled all the medical data from the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and now SkyLab missions. Was held at Rice University - where John F Kennedy did the famous "We will go to the Moon" speech.
