Older Office Software

Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows (version 1.0), Word Perfect Dealer package which is kinda interesting, Corel Word Perfect Suite (Corel is a Canadian company), and then a neat document converter called "Software Bridge" that lists all these other word processors on the front cover (WordPerfect, WordStar, Wang PC, CEOWrite, WordMarc, Sprint, Navy DIF, Microsoft Word, DisplayWrite, MultiMate, VolksWriter, Dec/DX, Samina, DAC/RFT, DCA/FFT). I remember WordPerfect, WordStar, DisplayWrite and MultiWrite - but not the others.

Google Modular Phone vs Sharp Zaurus

5/27/2016

Back in 2001 Sharp introduced the Sharp Zaurus (SL-5500) that was a Linux PDA. the Zaurus also had the ability for expansion cards -- such as a camera, wireless card, and hard wired network card. The camera is kinda cool as it rotates -- so you can have it either front or backward facing.

FrostByte - The Vintage Computer Coffee Shop

5/19/2016

Picture
Looking for investors for my Fantastic Idea: "A Retro Computer Coffee Shop" called "FrostByte". The concept is that vintage computers and software will be displayed like it's 1984. And when people order stuff (not the coffee) it will always be "out of stock" and "placed on order". Don't miss out on this revolutionary business opportunity.

A friend actually emailed me and said this might fly in Silicon Valley.

AT&T Unix PC - Opening Up

5/19/2016

Needed to open up the Unix PC and see what was the cause of the failing hard drive (hoping it may have been a loose connection). It is amazing how difficult it was to open the case -- a note are the little plastic clips (you fear breaking them as you are removing the plastic). Also, notice the massive "wood" screws.

Backup Solutions from the 1990s

1/11/2016

In the 1990s several backup solutions were offered. These consisted of a type of tape backup presented in a cartridge format. The two main companies behind this technology were IOMega with their Zip disks and SyQuest. They were mainly external devices, however, internal Zip drives were rather popular.

I was able to obtain a variety of these devices for the collection. I've heard that the SyQuest ezFlyer disks have not been reliable with age (something to look into to).

The Panasonic PD disks are interesting as they were before the popular CD-RW.

IOmega Zip Drive (100mb) (1)
IOmega Zip Drive (100mb) (1) - Internal
IOmega Zip Drive (250mb) (1)
IOMega Jaz Drive 1gb (3)
IOMega Jaz Drive 2gb (1)
SyQuest ezFlyer (230mb) (1)
Panasonic Phase-Change Dual (PD) rewritable optical disc (1)
Backpack 800TD Tape (1)

Need to acquire: SyQuest SyJet (1.5gb).

Note: Should include CD-RW, DVD-RW, and Blu-Ray technology.

Note: The NeXT Cube has a 256 magneto-optimal (MO) drive manufactured by Canon.
